another 'one' for Sebastion

Another one
Intelagos, Round 19: Sebastion takes another record in scooping the pole position tally to fifteen for a season from the great Nigel Mansell in 1992 who previously held the record for a number of years at forteen. Hang on, just how many races were there in the season Nige took the record??  Now that would only be sixteen races.. mmm??

On your Mark, get set...

Faster than a speeding bullet
Mark Webber added to his trophy cabinet yesterday in Brazil for having the highest number of fastest laps in the a 2011 Formula One season. Mark has had six fastest laps of the eighteen races so far. He has that one nailed but can he top it off with another fastest lap at Interlagos tonight.
It really shows just how much speed variation there has been in season 2011 when Michael Schumacher currently holds the record at 10 fastest laps from 18 races (55.55%) in 2004.
Well done Mark in what has been a tough year or competition.

Tony's 'Chase for the Sprint Cup'

Tony Stewart's fifth Chase victory made him a three-time Cup Series champ. Smoke needed every one as he and Carl Edwards finished in a dead heat and Stewart won on the tiebreaker.
Check it out on NASCAR.COM

PS: will we see him down this way again in a sprintcar this summer?

Under the hamer

mmm? nice.. but do I really need it??
In case you've wondered where all the good guitars go it's not under individuals beds as you may think. They go to cool cats like part time rocker and full time actor Richard Gere. Richard recently put up for auction just under a million bucks worth of guitar hardware. Perhaps he has settled on just the one Les Paul and a new yacht? Feast your eyes on this little lot.

Kaleidoscope eyes ??

True or False?
No, your glasses are perfectly okay. This is the True Temperament guitar neck. I don't know about you but tuning has been a harpoon in my side for longer than I can remember. These guys believe they have it nailed with their squiggly frets. Looks a bit of a trade off to me.. what's going to happen when bending strings? Weird gurgling? Check 'em out.. http://www.truetemperament.com

Clicky images.. what's that??

Okay 'Electric Guitars and Racing Cars' fans, just a reminder that all the images on this blog are clickable opening in a lightbox to their full size, and looking rather nice.. try it.

Sparkling. Crisp. Balanced

Gain Odyssey
Thought I'd show you this. It's a Gain, yep Gain. They are made (probably) in China by a Japanese company called Fuji-Gen. These guys are huge guitar makers making the original Squires for Fender in the 80's. They have recently produced guitars under their own Fuji-Gen name. Being made in Japan the Fugi-Gen branded Japanese guitars are expensive at around $2000 here. However their cheaper brand Asian made instruments like this Strat are reasonable at $799. A unique instrument with a slightly off-Strat shape with squarer edges. Offshore EMG's, quality Wilkinson trem. Easy adjustable truss rod and vintage tuners. The body is Basswood (whatever that is) very common in Asian guitars and the three colour sunburst looks to be a satin finish, nice. They also come in a limited palette, basic red, white or blue and it appears the only fingerboard option is rosewood. If you're looking for a Strat when you're no having a Strat this could be it.

No spare..

Who needs words?
One record Sab won't be breaking this season is 'most wins in a season' which Michael Schumacher currently holds at thirteen. Sab sits on eleven wins and if he had of won Abu Dhabi and Brazil still would have only equaled Schumacher's record. No big deal I say but no doubt Sabastian will be pretty cranky.

Avalon gets one in

Lines leads the way
Avalon finally got their first big sprintcar show in last night after what has been a torrential start to the season. The track stood up well for the 46 car field and produced record breaking heat race times. South Australian racer Steven Lines for Mt Gambier won the night starting from pole in the A Main with Johnny Vogles and Tim Rankin rounding out the podium. Sounded like a great night of 'real' racing without the big players. Wish I had of been there. Here's the full race review from Sprintcar World

They're coming thick and fast..

A white Black Knight..
..and they keep on coming. Guitars from the east that is. Yet another 'brand' no doubt from China with the very British name of 'Black Knight'. I'm only guessing China as the price of these baby's is around 130 quid in the UK (just over a couple of hundred Aussie bucks). These are extremely inexpensive instruments. The model shown would make a nice little jazzer with some flatwounds. This would have to be one of the first single neck pickup solid bodied guitars I've seen in ages. Very cool. Check out the full range of 'Black Knights' here.. http://www.gear4music.com/Electric_Guitars/Black_Knight.html

Just when I'd thought I'd found it..

A weapon of choice for the shredder?
I was doing some surfing the other night and came across the Kramer Assault 211. Gibson acquired the Kramer 'brand' a while ago and have finally released a set of MII (made in Indonesia) instruments. I have been on the lookout for a three single coil pickup guitar that isn't a Strat and stumbled on this nearly three singles and thought I'd check it out. My buddies up at KC's Rockshop just had a Gibson delivery and the Assault 211 was on the truck. With a street price of around 800 big ones it is probably at the top end of the MII guitars so I was expecting something pretty nice. At first look this contemporary designed cutie has the right look. Beautiful candy red finish, set neck, ebony finger board, black nickle hardware, two singles and a hummer (or is that two hummers and a non-hummer?), all was lookin' good so far.
