Round 4 coming up. The season's flying.

Would that be the 'flying' Russian Roulettes?
F1 and Esteban head to Sochi, not to be confused with Sushi, for the fourth round of the 2017 F1 series. The biggest waft of news the week has been from the FIA to all the teams that as of the Spanish GP in a couple of weeks "the sporting regulations will be strictly enforced to ensure that visibility of drivers’ names and numbers on the cars will be clearer". Now that's tough talk. So will we see NASCAR style numbers?  How about pink cars I ask?
The Russian Roulettes? Don't think so somehow. It's the Aero L-39 Albatross flypast from 2014..

The Real Deal

A new drive for The Real Deal
Hot off the dirt. Krikke Motorsport has announced that sprintcar ace Jamie Veal The Real Deal will be driving the #2 Western Australian entered sprintcar next season. Over many sleepless night and much discussion the team have decided to release multi-champion Brooke Tatnell of his driving duties after a twelve season partnership. Jamie will take the wheel for the '17-'18 season for our local sprintcar shows and the teams anticipated move into the US racing series over our off-season. We have yet to hear Brooke's side of things but perhaps this is end of a brilliant career?

Long live the American Standard 1986 - 2017

The Jazzmaster looks pretty cool.
Introduced in 1986 the American Standard Series of Fender guitars and basses set the benchmark in identifying the Made In America standard series of Fender instruments. There were many models either side of the 'standard'  but it was always the model that was the stepping stone, a great quality, guitar or bass for the people. It is sad to see it unceremoniously dropped like a hot potato after 31 years to be replaced by what some bright-spark marketing 'expert' has called.. the Professional Series.

Three starts, three perfect tenths.

Thanks James Allen for the cool picture.
Our boy Esteban Ocon makes it a clean sweep. In his first three F1 races for the new pinky race team Esteban has finished in tenth spot each race picking up a goalden point on each outing. Yep that's goal (den) as that was the lads goal before he started the season, to finish in the points at each and every round. So far, so good for the consistent Esteban Ocon.

The Place For Pace.

You're a winner Stacey
Easter Good Friday proved to be a good night for young lady Sprintcar racer Stacey Galiford at Avalon Raceway, The Place For Pace, last Friday. It was a packed house for night one of the three round Easter Trail. Thrills and spills galore and much damage. At one point the catch fence required a little welding before a race could be concluded. Steven Lines showed us the brute power of the 410 but it was Stacy who ran the race of the night to hold off the testosterone charged boy racers behind her in her first ever heat race win.

It's a slow guitar news week.

Humorist and guitarist Greg Kogh demos the latest from ikmultimedia: the Fender Collection 2. Here Greg shows us the iPad version. I have to say unless you're a lover of distortion, guitar amp simulators are merely a pale interpretation of the real thing, software impersonators.

Fernando to tackle Indy

Indy drivers warn Fernando of the dangers.
Multiple world champion Fernando Alonso will be lining up alongside the other crazies for this years Indy 500 in May. McLaren have given Fernando the weekend off from the Monarco GP (if you don't start at the front you don't finish at the front) but the deal is that he paints the Indycar in the current McLaren livery. Team boss Micky Andretti has kept his contacts from his McLaren days open who have been hinting at spreading their wings with a forward look at IndyCars. Who better that Fernando to give it a shot.

The weekends racing summary.

Things go better with Shell
Well after the multi-car pile up in Tasmania on Saturday the driver who was deemed to have triggered the carnage, one Fabian Coulthard was pinged 35 championship points. Wacky do, guest what? After a Q6 start in Race 4 Fab went on to win the race, albeit with a slightly depleted field. It would seem a new day is a new race and all is forgotten. Was the 35 point penalty merely a slap on the wrist?

Well, how I see it is...
Same old same old for Round 2 of the F1 Championship. Ol' Bling Eyes is still here. At least potty-mouthed Seb finished on his tail. Bottas must have been washed away in the rain and mighty Max Verstappen after a mighty run from sixteenth place on the grid rounded out the podium

Yey!!!!
Our lad Esteban is maintaining his series goal with yet another championship point,. 'onya Esteban.

And rain in Tassie for the tin-tops

Fast, wet and millions in damage.
It was stacks-on-the-mill for the Supercars today. It was nothing short of a multi-car stack like we see on the crash cam TV shows. Let's hope this many millions of dollars episode tells CAMS something: If  the race is going to start under that much water then an Indian file start is the go. Race 3 of the series was eventually abandoned although there was mention of points being allocated but someone saw reason and there was a no points decision made. Crazy stuff, I wonder how things are in Shanghai for the open wheelers?

Rain in China

And it wasn't much better in 2016
Esteban and his mates didn't get much of a run in China today. I stuck my finger out the window and yes, it was definitely raining in Shanghai today. Our lad only managed two laps but was able to get a feel for the track elevations. Either the pink paint was starting to run in the rain, they had no wets or the session (P1) was red flagged. P2 was definitely cancelled so drivers and teams are hoping for some clear weather for P2 and qualifying tomorrow.

Ute racing is back!!

Is this the new family sedan?
Better late than never or just better late?. With the demise of the good ol' Aussie ute as we knew it, the introduction of a new class of ute racing is upon us. Am I excited? Can't say I am but they will surely get the tradies to the races in droves. These turbo diesel billowers of black smoke are expected to join the Supercar circus before the season is run and done. Don't expect to see the spectacle of Robby Gordon's Super Stadium Trucks but these things do look a little top heavy to me, could be the odd inversion.

Beautiful noise will happen again.

Fernando's fav Honda donk.
Guess what? Only three more treks down to Albert Park and we will get to HEAR real Formula 1 cars again. Unfortunately we won't be hearing V8's or V10's, it will probably be screaming turbos. More meetings and yet more meetings until someone makes a final decision but committee's are being formed as you're reading this. Just a few more years and we'll be reaching for the ear plugs again and it's music to my ears.

Extended range guitars.

So what might this stealth machine be? Well this is the new and mighty 'Squier Vintage Modified Baritone Jazzmaster'. It's almost as long as it's name. These monsters of the depth are often heard but seldom seen.
