Go Charlie Go!!

I know I have seen this guy before and lucky Newcastle will get to see him next week at the big hurrah that is the Coates Hire Newcastle 500. Yep, you guessed it. It's none other that Charlie Burchill and he will be there headlining Saturday's after race party with his mate Jim Kerr from the sensational Scottish export (second only to Johnny Walker), 80's chart toppers Simple Minds.
"Don't You (Forget About Me)", "Promised You a Miracle", "Up on the Catwalk" and the hits keep on coming.
It has been nearly forty years since their first life so don't expect to see the same lineup. Instead we will be seeing the all new 2018 Simple Minds with the only old blokes being Charlie and Jim. The lads have had twenty two musos through the 'Minds over the years and you can see/hear in this tour rehearsal video (below) the atmospheric synthesized, punchy rhythms, Charlie's jangly guitar and Jim's monotonic vocals are all there in the new Simple Minds. Awesome!
The star of the new lineup for their current tour would have to be their funky female drummer Cherisse Osei. She will definitely get your toes a tapping. Check out the video here..
