Robbie cellebrates

Robbie Farr celebrates after winning the 47th Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic last Sunday night 20/01/19 in Warrnambool, Victoria.

The 'Classic is THE premier event to win for the sprintcars here in Australia and has been run every year since 1972 if my maths are correct. This year the nominations received exceeded the hundred mark with a divided field of 51 cars to qualify over each of the Friday and Saturday nights.

Traditionally the race has featured drivers, cars and teams from all around Australia, also cars from New Zealand and the U.S.A. Sunday nights final sees 48 of the top point scorers transfer from their qualifying nights races to compete for the ultimate trophy in a 98 car massive final. From the 98 lucky cars that qualified for the big one the cars run another round of heats, the D, C and B-Mains to determine the starters for the A-Main 24 car field..

For those of you that wouldn't have a clue where exactly Warrnambool is it's a short four hour drive south of Melbourne in the state of Victoria. Google co-ordinates qwert - 09876, just kidding. It is a wonderful spot down there and makes for a great weekend of camping and going to the races. I have made the pilgrimage many times. Much fun was had.

Here is Sunday night A-Main.
The next major event comes up on the weekend of Jan 26th, it's the 57th Australian Sprintcar Title. Each year the sprintcar title race travels around five of our six states, sorry Tassie. For season 2018/2019 it's the turn of Brisbane's Archerfield Speedway in the sunshine state of Queensland that is to host the race. Unlike the Classic the sprintcar titles are only open to Australian drivers but we are looking at a solid field of 64 plus entries where the winner gets the prestige of wearing the #1 on his tail tank for a year until the 2019/2020 title race.
