2020 Australian Speedcar Championship

Pickens and Macedo race off for pole in Warrnambool

Back in my day we knew these little race cars as the mighty midgets. When the mighty sprintcars came along the midget name must have made these poky little devils sound small. So after once being the premier division the name was changed to Speedcars. So we're off to the seaside town of Warrnambool here in Victoria, a four hours drive south of Melbourne for the 2020 Speedcar Title.
The Warrnambool speedway is disputedly the best track, putting on the best run shows in Australia.
Unlike the annual sprintcars title where only Australian drivers are allowed to compete for the coveted number one on their car for the following season, the speedcar title does host international drivers. Among this years runners two familiar non-Australian names came to the top in New Zealand's multiple speedcar, nine times NZ champion, Michael Pickens and American young gun 24yo Carson Macedo. Carson usually runs with the World Of Outlaws in the US for the Kyle Larson stable but this year we got to see him down under in both a sprintcar and speedcar.
After two nights of hard and fast racing pole came down to a two car shootout between these two great rivals with Macedo to start on the inside of the A-Main for the championship decider.
It was all over bar the shouting when Pickens came to grief just seventeen laps in. It was to be Carson Macedo to win the race and get to wear the #1 on his speedcar when he will be here in Aus to defend his 2020 title.
